Ferrari Service and Repair Bay Area - Ferrari delivers one-off F12 SP America in New York - Zucchi Motorsports Sonoma - 707-334-3700
Ferrari's Special Projects division has apparently been keeping busy. We're sure that we don't even see half of the special one-offs Maranello's customer skunkworks unit produces, but we've been seeing quite a few lately.
The last one that popped up on our radar screens was the F12 TRS revealed at the recent FerrariCavalcade in Sicily, and now it seems that the Prancing Horse marque has delivered another. It's similarly based on the F12 Berlinetta, but instead of taking its inspiration from the 250 Testa Rossa with a unique roadster body-style, the F12 SP America pictured here seems to pay stylistic tribute to the 250 GTO – evident in the trio of nostrils in the nose, the unique side vents, the slates behind the windows and the restyled rear haunches that meld into an integrated rear spoiler.
This unique take of the F12 was delivered to its assuredly wealthy commissioner by Wide World Ferrari Maserati in Spring Valley, NY, which tells you as much as the chosen model name that this particular one-off is staying right here in the United States.

The unit is now producing a total output of 605 HP (445 kW) and it has a peak torque of 540 Nm (398 lb-ft). Thanks to these figures, the 0 to 100 km/h sprint is now made in just 3 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph), the supercar needs just 9.1 seconds.

Ferrari Service and Repair Bay Area - On this date in 1987 Enzo Ferrari revealed his final masterpiece, the F40 - Zucchi Motorsports Sonoma - 707-334-3700
The Ferrari F40 was born, and 27 years later, it remains one of the greatest super cars of all-time.
The machine was designed to commemorate Ferrari's 40th anniversary, not as a technologically advanced masterpiece -- such as Porsche's 959 -- but the purest expression of a raw, track-ready super car. The results, thanks in part to a stellar 478 hp 2.9-liter twin turbocharged V-8, were nothing short of sensational.
Enzo Ferrari died the following year in August 1988. The F40 was to be the final car launched by the man who created one of the most iconic brands this world has ever seen.

Ferrari Service and Repair Bay Area - 1967 Ferrari 330 P4 Was as Fast as it Was Beautiful - Zucchi Motorsports Sonoma - 707-334-3700
1967 was a good year for Ferrari’s sports car racing program. After losing the Constructor's International Sports Prototype Championship to Ford in 1965 and 1966, Enzo Ferrari asked its chief engineer Mauro Forghieri to build a winning car.
This is how the Ferrari 330 P4 was born, arguably the greatest Ferrari endurance racecar of all time. Based on the 330 P3 with which it shared the stunning sculpted bodywork, the 330 P4 brought Ferrari the Constructor’s title in the 1967 season after winning the 24 Hours of Daytona (a 1-2-3 finish) and the 1000 Km Monza race (a 1-2 finish).
Powered by a V12 engine producing 450 hp, the 330 P4 was outstanding in all aspects, including speed, looks and sound.
Head past the break to hear the story of the only existing original car from the latest video from Petrolicious.

Ferrari Service and Repair Bay Area - Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale going to auction, could become the most expensive Ferrari ever - Zucchi Motorsports Sonoma - 707-334-3700
A super rare Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale from 1965 will be auctioned on August 16, 2014.
The Italian classic vehicle is set to be offered during the RM Auctions Monterey event, which kicks off on 15 August. Expected to fetch at least 25M EUR ($34 M), this Ferrari could become the most expensive ever sold, outshining the 275 GTB/4 NART Spider that was sold for 20M EUR ($27 M) in 2013.
This particular car is one of only three ever made and has a chassis number 06701. The model was produced by the Maranello company in late 1964 and early 1965 only to homologate its 275 GTB race car, designed to challenge the Ford GT40 and the Shelby Cobra Daytona at Le Mans in 1965. Fully completed in April 1965, this car was the first of the three 275 GTB/C Speciales built.
Chassis 06701 never hit the track, but one of the other cars finished third in the overall standing at the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans, a record that has stood ever since as the best finish by a front-engined car.
The 275 GTB/C Speciale is equipped with a lightweight aluminum bodywork and a chassis constructed of smaller and lighter tubes with independent rear suspension. Under the hood lays a modified 3.3-liter V12 engine with six carburetors and maximum output of 320 PS (235 kW), 70 PS (51 kW) more than the standard 275 GTB.

Ferrari Service and Repair Bay Area - F1 flashback: 20 years since the crazy 1994 German Grand Prix (VIDEO) - Zucchi Motorsports Sonoma - 707-334-3700
It’s been 20 years since one of the most bizarre German Grands Prix on record, the 1994 edition won by Gerhard Berger for Ferrari.
Held at the old Hockenheimring, prior to the shorter, chopped new version that came into being in 2002, the weekend saw the V12 Ferraris produce an utterly dominant weekend on the 4-plus mile circuit known for incredibly long straights, where horsepower was king.
Berger and Jean Alesi locked out the front row ahead of championship rivals Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher. Schumacher was racing on home soil with a controversy hanging over his head after his British Grand Prix moment where he’d passed Hill on the formation lap.
While the Ferraris got away cleanly off the start (go to 3:33), there was a diabolical mess behind them with 10 cars eliminated either at the start/finish line or into Turn 1. McLaren’s Mika Hakkinen got a one-race suspension for the accident and was replaced at the following GP in Hungary by Philippe Alliot.
Those 10 were eliminated there with Alesi retiring at the end of the first lap with electrical issues. A throttle issue for Ukyo Katayama’s Tyrrell made for another retirement.
On Lap 16, one of the few who’d survived the first lap fracas, Benetton’s Jos Verstappen, had what became his most memorable moment in Formula One history. The Dutchman was engulfed in a fireball after a refueling stop went awry; NBC Sports Group analyst Steve Matchett was actually involved in that pit stop, having been a Benetton mechanic at the time, and recalled the moment during a SPEED “Formula 1 Decade” rebroadcast of the 1994 German GP during the 2004 season (see below).
Verstappen’s retirement brought the field down to just 13 runners left after 26 had started, and more retirements were to come. David Coulthard’s Williams had an electrical issue; Martin Brundle’s McLaren-Peugeot and Schumacher’s Benetton-Ford both had engine failures.
The 10 remaining runners included of all cars, both Ligier-Renaults, Footwork-Fords, Larrousse-Fords and Simtek-Fords.
Berger continued up front untroubled en route to a popular victory, Ferrari’s first since Alain Prost’s at the 1990 Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez, nearly four years earlier. International commentary is linked, but the V12 Ferrari is glorious.
Behind him it was a day for the underdogs, with Olivier Panis and Eric Bernard leading the way in scoring their first (and in Bernard’s case, only) career podiums for Ligier. Christian Fittipaldi and Gianni Morbidelli drove their Footworks to fourth and fifth, and Erik Comas brought the Larrousse home in sixth. Teammate Olivier Beretta recorded his best ever F1 finish of seventh, just shy of the points, with Hill eighth.
The dream of Simtek scoring points ended when David Brabham had a clutch failure and Jean-Marc Gounon an engine failure in the final 10 laps. They were retirements but Gounon (ninth) and Brabham (10th) were still among the top-10 at the end of the day.
For a modern-day comparison of what this kind of shock result would be like, it would be akin to… well… Ferrari winning the 2014 German Grand Prix with a down-on-performance chassis, say Lotus coming second and third with Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado, Sauber ending fourth and fifth with Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutierrez, and Marussia bagging sixth and seventh with Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton.
Put simply, that ain’t gonna happen. And that’s why the 1994 German GP stands out so much, because it was such an odd, abnormal day of motor racing.

Ferrari Service and Repair Bay Area - [VIDEO] Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari F50 spotted cruising together - Zucchi Motorsports Sonoma - 707-334-3700
Ferrari is putting the finishing touches on the LaFerrari XX and new details are starting to emerge about the high-performance model.
According to Car Magazine, the LaFerrari XX will be a track-only supercar that features an upgraded 6.3-liter V12 engine and an optimized hybrid system. These changes will reportedly enable the car to produce 1050 bhp (782 kW) which is 100 bhp (74 kW) more than the standard model. If these numbers pan out, the LaFerrari XX should be an absolute rocket as the standard model accelerates from 0-100 km/h in less than three seconds and has a top speed in excess of 350 km/h (217 mph).
Unfortunately, getting your hands on a LaFerrari XX will likely be difficult as production will reportedly be limited to 30 units and pricing will likely boarder on the obscene.

Ferrari Service and Repair Bay Area - [VIDEO] Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari F50 spotted cruising together - Zucchi Motorsports Sonoma - 707-334-3700
A Lamborghini Aventador and a Ferrari F50 have been recently spotted cruising together and attracting a lot of attention.
One of the most appreciated supercars of the 1990s, the Ferrari F50, is coming back in an impressive video in which it is seen cruising along a Lamborghini Aventador. The Maranello assembled vehicle has been produced in just 349 units, between 1995 and 1997, being designed by Pininfarina. The supercar has a rear mid-engine and rear-wheel drive layout, being powered by a 4.7 liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, producing 513 HP (382 kW) at 8,000 rpm and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque, available at 6,500 rpm.
The Lamborghini Aventador, on the other hand, has been in production since 2011, coming in as a replacement for the Murcielago The supercar is being offered in two body styles, coupe and roadster, with its rear mid-engine and all-wheel drive layout. Power comes from a 6.5 liter V12 naturally aspirated unit, rated at 690 HP (510 kW) and 690 Nm (510 lb-ft) of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint is made in just 3 seconds and top speed stands at 350 km/h (217 mph).

Ferrari Service and Repair Bay Area - Le Mans Classic - Zucchi Motorsports Sonoma - 707-334-3700
The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014 was held June 26-29 at Goodwood House and the 9-turn, 1.16-mile Goodwood hill climb in West Sussex, England.
The central theme for the 2014 running of the Goodwood Festival of Speed was ‘Addicted to Winning – The Unbeatable Champions of Motor Sport’, celebrating drivers, riders, teams and manufacturers who have all swept before them in their chosen sport. Alongside the overall theme, the 2014 Festival also celebrated the centenary of Maserati. Many of the Modena manufacturer’s most iconic racing cars were gathered together on the hill, while a selection of fabulous Maserati road cars had a dedicated class in the Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ Concours d’Elegance.
The hill climb is the Festival of Speed’s principal attraction. Taking place throughout the weekend, this challenging white-knuckled course starts as a tree-lined run through the southern corner of the Goodwood Estate which then turns to sweep past the front of Goodwood House before climbing a steep and narrow Estate road bordered by flint walls and dense woodland groves towards Goodwood’s equine racecourse on top of the South Downs. Each day, no fewer than 300 cars and motorcycles sprinted their way up the iconic hill climb in an breathtaking display of performance, power, pace and precision. The vehicles were grouped thematically into classes of comparable machinery, with the oldest running first.
Sebastien Loeb added victory at the Goodwood Festival of Speed shoot-out to his trophy cabinet with a stirring run during Sunday afternoon’s against-the-clock timed run. The nine-time World Rally Champion, who now races for Citroen in the World Touring Car Championship, had qualified second fastest in the fearsome Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak car, and shaved almost a second from his Saturday time to take the top spot when it counted most in a time of 44.60 seconds.
Every year the lawn in front of Goodwood House is transformed by a magnificent automotive sculpture. After Porsche last year, it was Mercedes-Benz that took the spotlight in 2014 as the focus of the ‘Central Feature’ sculpture at the Festival of Speed. Once again created by Gerry Judah, this year’s art was the most complex and ambitious yet conceived at Goodwood and was a fitting celebration of 120 years of motorsport participation by Mercedes-Benz. Swooping over Goodwood House, the curve – which spanned 45 metres – tested the artistic and engineering ingenuity of the team of specialists assigned to making Gerry Judah’s concept a reality. Mercedes has plenty to celebrate this year, including 120 years of achievement in motorsport and 100 years since the famous 1-2-3 victory in the 1914 French Grand Prix.
Lord March said, “Once again the Festival of Speed has produced a thrilling spectacle on the Hillclimb and delighted hundreds of thousands of visitors who have brought their enthusiasm for motor sport to Goodwood. Our event theme was ‘Addicted to Winning’ and with reams guests that include seven Formula 1 world champions and some of the greatest drivers from NASCAR, rallying, sportscars and motorcycling, we’ve managed to gather more famous names from motor sport than ever before. And we were blessed with splendid weather all weekend too.”

Ferrari Service and Repair Bay Area - Le Mans Classic - Zucchi Motorsports Sonoma - 707-334-3700
The 7th Le Mans Classic, co-organized by Peter Auto and the
Automobile Club de l’Ouest, fulfilled all its promises and attracted a bigger
crowd as the 110 000-spectator barrier was broken. The weather also smiled on
the event on Friday and a blue sky and high temperatures greeted the people who
arrived for the early-morning opening of the gates of the circuit.
Thus, the spectators who had already flocked to the circuit were able to enjoy the village and its numerous sideshows and exhibitions to the full. These included the Le Mans Heritage Club, the major French coachbuilders, the Technological Innovations, the many clubs (180 car clubs representing around 80 makes with 8000 cars), and later on in the evening the new Drive-In cinema whose theme was the motor car with classic films like Un Homme et Une Femme, Bullitt, Le Mans et Weekend of a Champion. At 15h00 daytime practice began followed by the night session for the 450 historic cars and more than 1000 drivers from all over the world (30 plus nationalities) including seven former Le Mans 24-Hours winners.
A few hours earlier the first blows of the auctioneer’s hammer had sounded in the Artcurial Motorcars tent. After the Automobilia sale that began at 11h00 came the one for motor cars at 14h00. Under the hammer of Maître Hervé Poulain, who was celebrating his 40 years of car auctioneering, the sales totaled 13 264 345 euros including 13 057 760 euros for the part devoted to collectors’ cars. A record at Le Mans Classic! Over seven hours, 148 lots of Automobilia and 111 lots of collectors’ cars were auctioned. The highest price achieved was for a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster (1961) with hard top sold for 1 115 600 euros. 82 % of the lots went with a third of the cars exceeding 100 000 euros. More than 2000 people attended the auction creating a light-hearted ambiance and they cheered enthusiastically as the bidding scaled the heights. Among those present were 15 % Americans and 52% Europeans (outside France) as well as 250 clerks on Artcurial live bid.

Ferrari Service and Repair Bay Area - Meet North America's First LaFerrari: Video - Zucchi Motorsports Sonoma - 707-334-3700
Ferrari’s LaFerrari supercar has finally made its way to North America, with the car’s local launch taking place in Mont-Tremblant in Canada. The launch took place during the Ferrari Racing Days event held at the Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant late last month, where the LaFerrari was able to stretch its legs alongside a number of Ferrari’s retired race cars and XX experimental cars.
Ferrari hasn’t mentioned who the owner is, but the automaker did upload a brief clip of the car to its Instagram account (see below). YouTube user 3370985 also uploaded a video showing the car performing some high-speed fly-bys.
Now that the LaFerrari has started delivery in North America, we’re likely to see a handful more show up soon. The U.S. is Ferrari’s single biggest market, after all, so we would expect a few LaFerraris to make it over.
In case you’ve forgotten, the LaFerrari is powered by an advanced hybrid
system pairing a big, naturally-aspirated V-12 engine with electric drive and regenerative systems. The engine displaces 6.3 liters and musters up a staggering 789 horsepower on its own. An electric motor helps boost that output to 950 horsepower, which is the LaFerrari’s stated peak power.
Not many people can claim to have driven the LaFerrari, and only a handful of journalists have got behind its wheel. Most that have been lucky enough to drive it describe it as having seemingly infinite power, impeccable handling and an insane engine note.
