The Ferrari F40 was born, and 27 years later, it remains one of the greatest super cars of all-time.
The machine was designed to commemorate Ferrari's 40th anniversary, not as a technologically advanced masterpiece -- such as Porsche's 959 -- but the purest expression of a raw, track-ready super car. The results, thanks in part to a stellar 478 hp 2.9-liter twin turbocharged V-8, were nothing short of sensational.
Enzo Ferrari died the following year in August 1988. The F40 was to be the final car launched by the man who created one of the most iconic brands this world has ever seen.
