More torque, less revs, more power, less emissions, more range, less sound. There's no question that the 2015 Ferrari California T is a better Ferrari than the first generation was.
It looks nicer, it's faster and with more low end torque thanks to that twin-turbo V8, it's also a better cruiser, making it the ideal car for those looking for a very rapid GT.
But can Ferrari make this engine good enough for a 458?
The F40 worked because it was a child of the 1980s, using a relatively small engine boosted to the stratosphere. Modern turbo engines are very different. Much smarter perhaps, but they also lack that sort of drama. And a 458 without the drama is no more than an early McLaren MP4-12C.
Buyers are way past that stuff, so it will be interesting to see what Maranello will really be able to do when they go to Turbo Town.
